Dibrugarh varsity studentassaulted, two arrested

Two persons identified as Imran and Jaheen, were arrested by police in connectionwith assault on a girl student of Dibrugarh University’s in Assam while policewere on the look-out for four others involved in the case. 186 cases of sexual offencesagainst women in Arunachal in 2015

A total of 186 cases of sexual offences against women have been reported inArunachal Pradesh in 2015.

The sexual offences cases included rape, attempt to commit rape, assault on womenwith intent to outrage her modesty and insult to modesty of women. Among thenorth eastern states, Assam reported a highest of 6,636 sexual offences againstwomen, followed by 609 in Tripura, 231 such cases in Meghalaya, 141 in Mizoram,133 in Manipur, 53 in Nagaland and 29 such crimes in Sikkim, as per NationalCrime Records Bureau (NCRB) data released on Wednesday. Normal functioning of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) was affected today asstudents demanded immediate removal of a professor who allegedly sexuallyharassed a research scholar. HC reopens ‘juvenile rapist’ case

In a setback to an accused who posed as a juvenile to escape punishment for therape of a minor girl the High Court of Meghalaya has held that there is notenough evidence to declare the accused as juvenile and set aside the earlierorder of the POCSO court. A woman from Tura lodged a complaint that on August 28, one Hira Marak went toher house at Chitoktak, Tura (WGH) and forcibly took her 14-year-old daughterto Garobadha where she was repeatedly raped by one Ram. On September 3, policetraced the girl and handed her over to the complainant.

Two women found murdered in Mizoram
